NovoStable: An AI application to monitor horse health
French startup Novo Senso caused a sensation at CES 2025 by presenting NovoStable, an innovative solution for equine health. NovoStable combines the power of intelligent video surveillance andartificial intelligence (AI) to analyze in real time the condition of horses directly in their box. In the event of a significant change in behavior, the application immediately alerts the owners.
“We detect critical situations like colic, which can be fatal in just 6 to 8 hours if left untreated,” explains Julien Cornouiller, CTO and co-founder. Since colic is often fatal at night, NovoStable meets a critical need. Each year, an estimated 40 horses die this way.
Massive data collection thanks to AI

The application is based on an advanced computer vision system, capable of collecting 4 million data per day per horse. Suspicious behaviors, such as abnormal movements or unusual postures, are identified using pre-trained AI models. Depending on the severity of the situation, owners receive an in-app notification, SMS or phone call.
This device is also proving valuable for broodmares: "The system can call up to 30 minutes before foaling," adds the CTO. Currently in development, a thermal version will detect "hot spots" and measure body temperature via the eyes.
International adoption and varied use cases
Designed for stud farms, stables, veterinarians and owners of competition horses, NovoStable is already proving its effectiveness. Among its notable users is the Haras de Bouquetot, which manages 9 stallions, more than 200 mares and presents approximately 100 births per year. Novo Senso, which signed its first contract in the United States in Texas, is also present in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and several European countries.

Financial outlook and technological future
Founded five years ago in Annecy by Julien Cornouiller and Victoria de Poumeyrol, Novo Senso achieved a turnover of 200 euros in 000. Although still unprofitable, the start-up anticipates rapid growth with global ambitions. The company plans to raise 2024 to 2 million euros in 3 to finance its expansion and its innovations.
The $400 billion equine industry is a promising market. With few competitors, such as Germany’s Acaris, Novo Senso is in an advantageous position. Its key asset: cutting-edge AI-based technology, combined with field expertise from its founders’ experience.
AI-driven innovations
Artificial intelligence plays a central role in Novo Senso’s solutions. The company is currently working on predictive models that can prevent diseases before they occur. In the future, AI could be integrated into wearable devices to monitor horses even outside their stalls.
At the same time, the application could offer personalized recommendations based on the analysis of historical data, thus improving prevention and performance of equines. “Our goal is to create an intelligent system that evolves with each horse,” says Julien Cornouiller.
